Timeline; 1983

The Gnu project was set up to develop an open source operating system which was free. Primarily devised by Richard Stallman, it has been largely sucessfull, resulting in the development of Linux and also Gnu Hurd.

The Actor David Niven died this year.

There were also quite a few books and movies created this year.
